JIU-JITSU BATTLE II WRAP UP

THANK YOU
First off, We would like to extend a huge “THANK YOU!” to all the volunteers and sponsors that made our event a success.  Definitely would have stared at failure if it wasn’t for everyone’s involvement.

WRAP UP
Our 2nd Jiu-Jitsu Battle was held at Graffiti House L.A. where they created an inspiring mural that we used as the backdrop for our competition space.  But the athletes stole the show.  Every match was hard fought and kept the audience entertained throughout the day.

Jiu-Jitsu Battle II Champions

BLUE BELT: KEENAN Wins First Blue Belt Division JJ-B Title
A treacherous journey to the final round and a fresh Richard Alvarez receiving a bye in the semi-finals couldn’t stop Thomas Keenan from surging past the competition.  Patience was the key as Keenan readjusted a Triangle Choke to earn the win over Alvarez in a no-time-limit match.  Keenan looks to settle in the upper echelons of the blue belts with his stunning performance.

PURPLE BELT: ARGES’ Perfect Timing Delights Crowd
The Purple Belt finals, structured as a round robin for the four remaining competitors, led to tied matches through the first and second rounds.  Ties in the third round threatened another go around but Gabriel Arges had other plans.  Arges squeaked by submitting Rick Slomba with an Ankle Lock in the last match of the day serving up the only submission in the final round.  The sole submission was worth a Jiu-Jitsu Battle title and the $1,000 grand prize.

These twin brothers are from Brazil.  They’re the Miyao Brothers, Paulo (right) and Joao (left).  They came from nothing and here they stand as one of the biggest names in Jiu-Jitsu today.

We shot an interview with these guys and asked them deep questions about life and Jiu-Jitsu.  Joao got teary eyed while speaking about the opportunities and experiences gained through the art.  They never expected traveling around the world for simply doing what they love to do.  Jiu-Jitsu has given them almost everything in life and they are very thankful for that.

They fight at Feather (141 lbs.) weight but are always willing to fight in the Open weight division.  The Miyao Brothers are not afraid of challenges and are willing to push the limit physically as well as mentally.  Why?  To see where it can take them.  Kids like these inspire me to really push Jiu-Jitsu Battle and help upcoming athletes that give up everything in life to become champions.
